Recommended Application of the
EponaShoe
While this is not the only way the EponaShoe can
be used, this is the recommended way to achieve an easy-to-apply
and cost-effective means of accomplishing good "sole support"
for the horse.
1) Trim the hoof as you normally would. The hoof wall
that the heels should be at a height roughly even with the frog.
2) Apply a two-part silicon-based packing (for example, the EponaShoe
Packing). This is hand mixed, very safe, requires no gun, and
does not make a mess. We also offer all-natural "granules"
which contain an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal ingredients and can
be mixed with the packing.

3) Let the horse stand on a paper towel for half a minute or so.
This flattens the packing completely.

4) Apply the shoe, either by nailing as usual or with glue. We
use "EquiBond" glue, a well-known
two-part acrylic glue which has been used for years in this application.
For some additional suggestions for how to nail or glue, see the
documents listed in the right-hand column of this web-page, or visit
our Hints-for-Farriers
page.

5) You're done! The foot is completely supported, and you didn't
spend a fortune on urethane packings because the EponaShoe has the
pad built-in.
We have some short video clips
showing some of these steps of applying the packing and the shoe.
