Lameness Problems that May be
Aided by Using Flexible Shoes
It is our belief that except for a few special problems for which
hoof imobilization is required (e.g. severe hoof cracks or a fractured
pedal bone) most horses with lameness issues will benefit
from flexible shoes with proper frog support.
We have seen horses with various problems improve when shod with
the EponaShoe. These include horses diagnosed as having navicular
disease, laminitis, pedal osteitis, sidebones, sore soles, and other
conditions.
On our testimonials page, you'll
hear from owners whose horses were diagnosed with Navicular syndrome.
Our case study #4 shows the improvement
in the hoof after a case of laminitis in a large Dutch Warmblood
horse, and case study #6 shows a founder
recovery case using radiographs. We have outlined how the EponaShoe
can be used to assist with the recovery from founder in this
article. Also, we have posted an article (originally appearing
in the American Farrier's Journal) which we wrote concerning the
use of plastic shoes
for horses recovering from laminitis.
Now it is important to state that no shoe is going to create miracles
on its own. The best results are obtained with the services of a
skilled farrier -- so this is the most important thing if your horse
is having a problem.
The EponaShoe has been designed with the helath of the hoof as
the primary design goal. Farriers are finding that it is an important
addition to the options they have to treat the various conditions
they encounter.
The primary advantages of using the EponaShoe on your horse are:
* The frog is supported
* The whole hoof capsule can flex
* Shock absorbtion
* Nails can be avoided if need be
On this web-site you will find case
studies showing results that can be obtained, and you will find
a page of testimonials from happy
users of the EponaShoe. You will find descriptions of the options
we offer, and some related products such as our packing
material, and a glue
which works well if you want to try gluing on the shoe. There are
sizing charts and other
information, and also contact information so you can call
us if you have more questions.
The EponaShoe was designed by engineers
and farriers with consultations with some of the leading veterinarians
specializing in equine podiatry. The shoe has been tested for years
on horses of all kinds.
